Meet JP Perron

JP Perron is a proud LAUSD dad, community problem-solver, and longtime advocate for students and families.

BIO

Originally from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan he delivered newspapers by combining 3 separate routes at the age of 10. As a teenager JP worked to put himself through vocational school and built a 21-year career in aerospace, where he led hands-on testing at JPL, published research, and helped set strong ethics standards at the federal level. That experience shaped his approach to schools today: data-driven, transparent, and focused on real results for kids.

John’s passion for education deepened when he and his wife, Tamar, navigated services for their young daughter, who needed hearing aids. As a Hard of Hearing parent, he turned personal challenges into action—volunteering in LAUSD, serving on the Executive Board of a central committee, and later being elected Chair of the Community Advisory Committee (CAC). He launched the CAC Parent Ambassador program—now used districtwide through Family Academy—activated the CAC Legislation and Black Student Achievement Subcommittees while serving on the School Board Special Education Committee. He also represented LAUSD as a Parent Ambassador at regional town halls and helped produce a KLCS-TV PSA to inform families during the pandemic.

When COVID hit, John pushed for safe, family-friendly meal distribution—helping drive a Grab & Go approach that led to more than 100 million meals served in the first 10 months. He has consistently championed practical, college & career-ready pathways, advocating for free vocational certificate programs in high school so every student can graduate with options.

Beyond schools, John’s background in real estate, Chamber of Commerce President and nonprofit consulting informs his work on safe campuses, community partnerships, and smart resource use. He and Tamar, a Los Angeles County Commissioner and former school board trustee, have three children in public schools and remain active on School Site Council and PTA. They live in Toluca Lake.

JP Perron: a kids-first, results-focused leader who listens, builds bridges, and gets things done for students and families.
