Meet JP Perron
JP Perron is a proud LAUSD dad, community problem-solver, and longtime advocate for students and families.
BIO
J.P. Perron is a parent advocate, longtime community volunteer, and former aerospace technician who believes that public education should put kids first, not politics.
A proud dad of three LAUSD students, he came to this work by fighting for services his profoundly hearing-impaired daughter needed and running headfirst into a system that made everything harder than it should be. That experience pushed him to become a full-time advocate for families who don’t have the time or resources to fight the district alone.
Before his work in education, J.P. spent more than two decades in the aerospace industry, testing and evaluating solar technologies for satellites at Boeing’s Solar Power Laboratory and JPL. He earned two Boeing Technical Excellence Awards and helped advance early high-efficiency solar systems.
His aerospace background shaped the way he approaches problems: identify what isn’t working and fix it. It’s not rocket science, and LAUSD shouldn’t make things any harder than they need to be.
After leaving aerospace, J.P. built a second career in real estate and feasibility analysis for nonprofits while deepening his community service. His work included roles in the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, the East Hollywood Chamber, and multiple local committees. Public service has always been his anchor.
Inside LAUSD, J.P. has taken on difficult challenges affecting families. He served as Chair of the LAUSD Community Advisory Committee, pushing the district to meet state requirements, improve special education practices, and communicate honestly with parents. He launched the Parent Ambassador program and served as a panelist for statewide town halls on school safety, health, and reopening. His televised PSA work with KLCS helped educate parents during the return to in-person learning.
When the district implemented meal distribution plans during the COVID shutdown that put families at risk, he pushed for safer “Grab and Go” sites – all the way to the Governor’s office - that eventually distributed more than 40 million meals.
J.P. lives in Toluca Lake with his wife, Tamar Poladian Perron, a Los Angeles County Commissioner, respected attorney, and longtime public servant. Their three children attend LAUSD schools, and the family remains active on School Site Council, PTA, and district volunteer committees.
